James Edward Toth, 76, of Edwardsburg, passed to his rest Oct. 21, 2017, at his home, with his family present, of cancer.

He was born June 7, 1941, in Chicago, the son of Albert and Anna (Ritter) Toth. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a radio operator.

He was employed for more than 24 years at Miles (now Bayer) of Elkhart, in research and development for medical instruments. He then spent another six years at C.T.S. in Elkhart in research and development. He volunteered for the Boy Scouts of Edwardsburg, Troop 593 and also for Cass County Council on Aging, helping to build ramps for the disabled.

James was married Sept. 2, 1967, in Grand Island, Nebraska, to Susan J. Stauffer, and she survives with their children, Laura (Jon) Blough and Michael Toth, both of Edwardsburg and Nanette Winter of Indianapolis. There are five grandchildren, Jillianne Blough, Lila Blough, Justin Toth, Katelynne Toth and Kamryn Toth.

Family who have preceded James in death are his parents; and brothers, Albert Toth, Robert Toth and Raymond Toth.

Family and friends may gather from 5 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at Hope United Methodist Church, 69941 Elkhart Road, Edwardsburg. The Memorial Service of Remembrance will begin at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Otis, pastor of the church, officiating. Immediately following the service the U.S. Army Honor Guard will play taps and fold the flag. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be given to Cass County Cancer Services, P.O. Box 676, Edwardsburg, MI 49112-0676.
