DOWAGIAC — In spite of the torrential downpour prematurely ending the festival itself, one group of stalwart figures withstood the high speed winds and heavy rainfall until the bitter end — although, being inanimate figures made from straw, they did not really have a choice in the matter.
The Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual scarecrow decorating contest in conjunction with Saturday’s Under the Harvest Moon Festival. Dowagiac businesses as well as individuals from the community participated in the contest.
Winning in the business division were entries from Yarn on Front and Deerpath Recycling, both of which reused materials from their businesses for their creations. Winning in the public division was Franny Maxey.
