Undefeated Cass hosting undefeated Mendon Friday

HARTFORD — The biggest challenge of the 2017 season awaits the Cassopolis Rangers Friday night.
The Rangers are 7-0 following a 45-0 victory over host Hartford last Friday night.
Cassopolis, ranked No. 4 in Division 7, have outscored their first seven opponents 344-28.
The closest game the Rangers have had this season was a 48-13 victory over Bloomingdale back on Sept. 15.
Mendon, ranked No. 3 in Division 8, also comes into Friday night’s game 7-0.
The Hornets have dominated their first seven opponents to the tune of 327-21.
Mendon’s closest game-to-date is a 41-14 victory over Hartford on Sept. 8.
“The keys to beating Mendon are play physical, do not turn the ball over and do not allow big plays,” Cassopolis coach Dan Purlee said.
The Rangers continue to work on being a balanced football team.
Cassopolis was 5 of 7 for 98 yards against the Indians with a touchdown. Dylan Green was 4 of 6 for 86 yards and the score, while Xander Smith was 1 for 1 for 12 yards.
On the ground, the Rangers rushed for 198 yards with Tyrese Hunt-Thompson leading the way with 88 yards on five carries.
Hunter Parsons finished with 50 yards on three totes.
Brandon Anderson was the top Ranger receiver with a pair of receptions for 57 yards.
Parsons, who missed some time this season with a shoulder injury, led the Rangers’ defense with 13 tackles, including five solo. Skyler McKee finished with 11 tackles, including one for a loss. Ahsan Hart had 10 tackles, including one for a loss, while Matthew Anderson also had 10 tackles.
Green had nine tackles, while Smith picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown.
The Rangers allowed the Indians just 104 yards in total offense.
The Hornets are coming off a 41-0 victory over Decatur.
Mendon rushed for 378 yards, led by Wyatt Cool, who finished the night with 157 yards on 13 carries and four touchdowns.
Corbin Weinberg added 62 yards and a score.
Quarterback Hunter Lovell was 2 for 4 for 34 yards.
Defensively, Mendon was led by Austin Rensi’s five tackles, including one for a loss. Sam Cleveland, Weinberg, Cool and Mikki Feister also had five tackles.
Cleveland and Lovell each had an interception.
Against Hartford last Friday night, Tyrese Hunt-Thompson scored five touchdowns. He scored twice running the football, caught a 17-yard pass from Green for a score, returned punt 78 yards and returned an interception 56 yards.
Anderson was 6 for 6 in extra point kicks and added a 31-yard field goal.
