Dowagiac finishes seventh at final jamboree

VICKSBURG — Sturgis locked up the regular season Wolverine Conference championship by sweeping the league jamborees.

The Trojans won all eighth jamborees, including Wednesday’s finale at the States Golf Course in Vicksburg.

Sturgis finished with a team total of 182 to easily outdistance runner-up Allegan, which finished with a 206.

Dowagiac was seventh in the final league jamboree after shooting 222.

The Trojans have 64 points heading into the league tournament next week at Cheshire Hills in Allegan.

Allegan is second with 47 points, while Dowagiac is currently fifth with 34 points.

The Chieftains are just three points ahead of South Haven and trail fourth-place Otsego by four points.

On Wednesday, Rebecca Franklin shot 42 to lead the Chieftains and finish fourth overall on the day.

Three Rivers’ Erin Taylor shot a 38 to earn medalist honors.

Taylor is currently leading the individual standings with a stroke average of 42.125.

Sturgis’ Katie Horn is a close second with a 42.625, while Franklin is third with a stroke average of 44.375.

Dowagiac’s Greta Whitaker currently sits in 12th place with a stroke average of 52.0.

The Wolverine Conference will hold its season-ending tournament at Cheshire Hills beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
