Dowagiac Union High placed on lockdown

Authorities placed Dowagiac Union High School on lockdown this morning, after a student reportedly saw a weapon on school grounds.

Officers with the Dowagiac Police Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police and other local law enforcement agencies were dispatched to the school around 11 a.m. after a student told administrators they had seen a weapon inside the school.

Police placed the school on lockdown and interviewed students to find out more about the situation.

No injuries have been reported so far. Students and staff are currently safe inside the building, school administrators said.

As of 11:50, the school was placed off lockdown.
