EDWARDBURG — Just when it looked as if the Dowagiac volleyball team had turned it around this season, things fell apart again against undefeated Edwardsburg Thursday night.
The Chieftains were coming off a five-set victory over Allegan, which squared its Wolverine Conference record at 1-1, and won the Eau Claire Invitational the previous Saturday.
Dowagiac got off to a fast start against the Eddies, but when Edwardsburg regrouped and elevated its game, the Chieftains began to struggle.
In the end, Dowagiac was dominated by the Eddies 25-16, 25-15 and 25-11.
“I do not know what it is,” said Dowagiac coach Rachel Zeider. “They make one mistake and they cannot pass or serve receive balls and it continues through the rest of the night. They cannot seen to break through that barrier.”
Edwardsburg’s powerful front line, which included Audrey Bellina and Skye Leach, had little trouble racking up the kills against the Chieftains.
Bellina finished with 21 kills, while Leach had eight kills.
Megan Lee, Brooke Allen, Hallee Hebard and Jocelyn Hack combined for another 15 kills.
Dowagiac was led by Kelsey Crocker’s three kills. Natalie Davis, Kenzie Cross and Jenna Davis each had a pair of kills.
Natalie Davis finished with 56 digs and Cross 32 digs.
Kassidy Binns ended the night with six setting assists.
