Athlete Showcase: Dowagiac’s Greta Whitaker

Greta Whitaker is a sophomore on the Dowagiac golf team.

What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?

GW: Our team getting third in some jamborees.

What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?

GW: Doing my worst on one of the easiest courses.

Who is a “hero” in your life and why?

GW: Both of my parents are my heroes because they have a huge impact in my life.

When are you the most nervous while you are competing?

GW: The first drive off the tee box.

Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.

GW: Shoot way more than I should have on one hole.

How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?

GW: I play with my dad a lot.

What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?

GW: Volleyball.

Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?

GW: They keep me active and help with my grades.

How would you give away $50,000?

GW: I would give it to a very good charity.

If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?

GW: Western Michigan University.

If I did not play sports, I would…?

GW: Probably join more clubs.

What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?

GW: Focus.

If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?

GW: You do not have to putt.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

GW: That I had great sportsmanship even when I was not doing great.

What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?

GW: Going a few strokes over par.

What is your favorite hobby? Why?

GW: I read, because I just love it.
