Saylor hat trick lifts Dowagiac to season opening win over Covert

Alec Saylor recorded a hat trick as the Dowagiac varsity soccer team opened its season with a 4-2 non-conference victory over visiting Covert Tuesday night.

Mariano Brito got the Chieftains (1-0) on the board first in the eighth minute and Saylor scored the first of his three goals in the 15th minute to give Dowagiac a 2-0 lead, which it would take into halftime.

In the second half, Saylor scored in the 43rd and 62nd minutes.

Covert averted the shutout in the 57th minute and concluded its scoring in the 67th minute.

Dowagiac is back in action Wednesday as it travels to Buchanan for a non-conference match.
