Leader Publications hosted a Michiana Life launch and fundraiser for United Way of Southwest Michigan Thursday evening at Niles Fifty5.
The carnival themed event helped launch a new year of Michiana Life magazine, and raised almost $800 for the nonprofit, whose mission is to improve the lives of those in need across southwest Michigan. United Way celebrated 75 years of service this year, and will kick off their 2017 fundraiser campaign in September. The organization hopes to obtain more than $4.4 million this year.
More than 200 people visited the venue to support the cause. Those who participated could play carnival games, and enjoy hot dogs and sweets hand baked by a number of Leader employees.
There was also face painting, a duck pond and pony rides from Niles Pony Party. To capture the moment, those who visited the event could have their picture taken with a number of hand crafted and carnival-themed props.
A silent auction also featured a number of items, sponsored by local businesses and Leader employees.
Staff at Leader Publications spent the past several weeks planning the fundraising event, and were excited to see the community’s support.
“United Way of Southwest Michigan goes above and beyond the call of duty 365 days a year to help those in need in our community,” said Ambrosia Neldon, general manager of Leader Publications. “The Leader Publications staff was honored to have the opportunity to act as pacesetters for the 2017 campaign.”
