Edwardsburg’s Noelle Kraus earned a spot on the first team of the All-Wolverine Conference soccer team, which was announced Thursday.
The Eddies also had Ashlee Lowe named to the second team and Emily Lopez selected as honorable mention.
“She is a relentless senior workhorse who plays up front for us.,” Edwardsburg coach Brett Harring said. “She has scored 22 goals and had nine assists so far this year. She is coming off of an ACL tear as a junior that cost her the season. She scored 27 goals as a sophomore. She plays up front alone without another forward and does a great job holding the ball allowing our midfield to transition out of defense into the attack.
“Claire Bartz is a very hardworking freshman outside midfielder for us. She has the ability to run box to box for 80 minutes and that is not a common feat for any high schooler let alone one on the outside that has to make 50/60 yards transition sprints regularly. Emily Lopez is a very hardworking senior holding midfielder for us. She has played all over the defense for us. Just this year, she has played center back, outside back, stopper, and holding midfielder.”
Dowagiac had a pair of honorable mention selections — goalkeeper Grace Younger and Kellyn Daly.
“Let me start by saying both of these athletes are very deserving of this award,” said Dowagiac first-year coach Chad Davis. “They’re both exceptional soccer players and resilient competitors and I appreciate the work they put in throughout the season. For the girls to receive all-conference honorable mention in the group of talented soccer players they were in, it is a great attribute to the team’s resilience and it goes to show that hard work does payoff.
“Our motto for the season was to believe and never give up. I thought the team did a great job of that all season and these two young ladies were great stand out for the conference.”
