Delmer K. Emmons, 84, of Dowagiac, passed away, Monday, May 16, 2017, at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Sacred Heart of Mary, 51841 Leach Road, Dowagiac, with Father Richard Altine officiating.

Delmer Emmons

Delmer was born Feb. 17, 1933, in Dowagiac, to Herman and Virginia (Smith) Emmons.

He married Margaret Guy Aug. 16, 1958, at Holy Maternity Catholic Church in Dowagiac.

Delmer joined the U.S. Army in 1953, where he proudly served his county.

He loved working with wood, whether it was doing carvings or building houses. Delmer was a member of the Dowagiac VFW 1855 and a former member of the Dowagiac Moose Lodge 933. He spent his free time fishing, golfing and playing tennis. Delmer enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family. In his later years he would meet up with his buddies at McDonald’s for coffee and conversation.

Delmer is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; sons Mark Emmons of Dowagiac and Chris (Nancy) Emmons of Dowagiac; five grandchildren, Melissa (Andrew) Grau of Stevensville, Brianne (Dakota) Okay of Niles, Rodney Crawford of Buchanan, Cody(Amanda) Krueger of Buchanan and Chase Krueger of Buchanan; six great-grandchildren, Shelby, Drew, Boston, McKenna, Breyden and Gunner; a brother, Emmerson (Joan) Emmons of Niles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Corliss Emmons.
