Monday night, the City of Buchanan recognized Mike Adams and Bobby Blaylock for 25 years of service each to the Buchanan Fire Department.
“One thing about being a volunteer, especially a firefighter, if you get into it for the right reasons then it’s not about recognition or pay,” Adams said. “It’s one of those things that either you love it or you don’t. Once you go into a burning structure you either love it, or you get out of it! It gets in your blood.”
City Manager Bill Marx took a moment to express his gratitude for the entire fire departement, and point out some of the areas where Buchanan’s fire department stands out.
“If you look around us [at other communities] a lot of fire departments are struggling to have personnel on board,” he said. “We are blessed with 26 [firefighters] with cadets. That’s amazing.”
