Visiting Dowagiac played two totally different games against South Haven in a Wolverine Conference non-divisional softball doubleheader Friday.

The Chieftains had just two hits and committed four errors in losing a 4-0 decision to the Rams.

In a total reverse of the opening game, Dowagiac played solid defense and got timely hitting to earn a split with a 3-2 win over South Haven.

“We didn’t have a very good first game tonight,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “We made bad errors for them to blow the game open and didn’t take good swings. Then we did a 180 in the second game. We were diving and making plays defensively and had some great at bats and got timely hits to score our runs. And Taylor pitched great against some good hitters in high-pressure situations.”

Hulett, who took the loss in the opener, scattered eight hits and struck out seven.

Dowagiac finished with seven hits, including Megan Soderbloom’s 3-for-3 performance with a double and two RBIs.

Kailey Fear added two hits.

In the opener, Hulett gave up just one earned run on seven hits with 10 strikeouts.

Hulett and Taylor Pye had the lone hits for the Chieftains, who entertain defending Wolverine Conference champion Edwardsburg at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
