Buchanan landed a pair of players on the inaugural All-Leader Publications girls basketball team.

The Bucks, who finished the year at 16-4, had seniors Brooke Wesner and Jayla Bibbs named to the first team.

Joining Wesner and Bibbs on the first team were Edwardsburg sophomore Kaitlyn Zarycki, Cassopolis junior Santaja Gibson and Brandywine freshman Zakiyyah Abdulla.

Wesner was the top scorer for the Bucks with an average of 14 points per game. She also averaged 5.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.2 steals.

Bibbs averaged 12.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.8 steals for the Bucks.

Zarycki averaged 15.3 points per game for the Eddies, who won the Wolverine Conference championship.

She also averaged 5.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.4 steals.

Gibson was the team’s top scorer as she led the Rangers with an average of 18.3 points per game. Gibson also averaged 10.5 rebounds and three steals per contest.

Abdullah led Brandywine with an average of 17.3 points per game. The freshmen point guard helped the Bobcats win the Class C district championship by averaging 3.1 rebounds. 4.6 assists and 3.4 steals.

Second team selections were Nicole Sachman, of Brandywine, Amiyah Smith and Taylor Hulett, of Dowagiac, Savannah Dixon, of Edwardsburg and Alycia Patterson, of Niles.

The Leader Publications girls basketball team was selected by coaches Josh Hood, Brandywine; Gabe Miller, Buchanan; Janice Gibson, Cassopolis; Brent Nate, Dowagiac; Jon Pobuda, Edwardsburg; Jessica Johnson, Niles; Amelio Rodriguez, Leader Publications and Scott Novak, Leader Publications.

The All-Leader Publications boys basketball team will appear in the Friday, 14 edition of the Dowagiac Daily News.
