Beeson Street Grill serving breakfast

While the downtown restaurant’s burgers and sandwiches have established it as one of Dowagiac’s favorite lunchtime destinations, the staff at Beeson Street Grill have set their sights on pleasing customers a bit earlier in the day, too.
The eatery recently began serving breakfast, opening for morning service at 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday. The kitchen serves morning fare by itself in the mornings and alongside the usual lunch/dinner menu until 3 p.m. every day.
The breakfast menu consists of classic American morning dishes, including pancakes, waffles, sausage gravy and biscuits, and bacon and eggs, said Sandy Bruens, one of Beeson Street
Grill’s cooks.
“We are starting off rather simple, but we can always add more dishes to the menu over time,” she said.
The popular downtown restaurant began opening for breakfast late last month, after several weeks of preparation, Bruens said. As the restaurant already stocked many ingredients used for breakfast dishes, such as eggs and cheese, for its afternoon service, expanding the menu was fairly simple process, the cook said.
Almost immediately after opening for the breakfast, Beeson Street has become a hotspot for early-morning diners. The restaurant is especially hopping on Saturday mornings, Bruens said.
“We have seen a lot of new faces since we opened for breakfast,” she said. “A lot of people are really happy we are doing it.”
One of the most popular breakfast dishes are the restaurant’s scrambles, which are a combination of veggies, meats and eggs all cooked in one skillet, served with toast and hash browns. Customers can choose either one of three combinations devised by the staff or can create a custom combination of veggies and meat to their liking.
The menu has been a hit so far with customers, not just in the mornings but during the later hours as well, Bruens said.
“You’d be surprised at how many people like to eat breakfast for lunch,” she said.
Beeson Street Grill is located at 105 Beeson St. The business is open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays, and from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays.
