Local fathers will soon have a chance to play prince to their daughters’ princess, as the Young Professionals of Greater Dowagiac hosts its annual Daddy-Daughter Snowball next month.

The third annual dance takes place in conjunction with the city’s Ice Time Festival, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Dowagiac Middle School. Tickets for the event are currently for sale at downtown’s Bakeman Barbers and The Baker’s Rhapsody for $5 per person.

Tickets will also be sold at the door the day of the event for $10 per person.

As with previous dances, entertainment will be provided by Michiana Princess, who will send a performer dressed as Belle from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” In addition, volunteers with the Young Professionals will provide refreshments and a crafts and coloring table, while Rebecca Kellogg with Blue Print Photography will offer a photo booth for visitors.

Started in 2015 by the Young Professionals, a service organization comprised of young business owners and professionals living in the Dowagiac area, the event serves as a way for fathers to spend a special evening with their young daughters.

Most of the proceeds from the event will go toward fundraising for the Young Professionals’ annual Fourth of July fireworks show.

“We like being able to put on events such as this to raise the money internally, instead of having to rely solely on donations,” said Becky Grabemeyer, a member of the Young Professionals who is helping organize this year’s dance. “We also like providing fun events like this for the community.”

This year’s dance has been moved back a half-hour in order to allow visitors to spend some additional time at the Ice Time Festival while still giving families enough time to grab dinner before their children’s bedtime after the event, Grabemeyer said.

In addition to providing admission to the event, each ticket may be used for special discounts for several salons, restaurants and florists the night of the festival, Grabemeyer said.

“The deal might be for a hairdo and nails, it might be a special deal for a corsage with a boutonniere — all the salons will have their own unique twist,” Grabemeyer said. “We are thankful to have a community with businesses that support an event like this every year.”

Additional information about the dance and business discounts can be found on the Young Professionals’ Facebook page, at facebook.com/pg/YPDowagiac.

“This daddy-daughter dance provides a great opportunity for memories,” Grabemeyer said. “The best thing about memories is making them.  Do not miss this chance to make memories with the special girl(s) in your life.”
