Roundup: Chieftains, Eddies, Rangers all fall

KALAMAZOO — The Dowagiac boys basketball team dropped to 0-4 on the season after falling to Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills at the Kalamazoo Central Holiday Tournament.

Ottawa Hills edged the Chieftains 57-52.

No further information was provided.

Dowagiac hosts Niles in a non-conference tripleheader tonight. Varsity tipoff is set for 7:15 p.m.

NAPPANEE, Indiana — Edwardsburg dropped to 0-3 on the season following a 54-51 loss to Mishawaka Friday night.

The Cavemen opened up a six-point cushion after one quarter and was able to hold off the Eddies over the final three quarters.

Adam Kozinski led Edwardsburg with a game-high 19 points. Dylan Layher added 11 points.

John Binion had 18 points for Mishawaka.

Edwardsburg lost to South Bend Clay in the opening round of the tournament Thursday night 72-41.

The Eddies host Dowagiac Friday night.

Cass at Benton Harbor

BENTON HARBOR — A battle of area unbeaten did not go the way the visiting Cassopolis Rangers envisioned.

The Tigers (7-0) outscored the Rangers (3-1) 30-9 in the second quarter and never looked back in winning 81-28.

Cassopolis trailed just 17-8 after the first quarter, but could not keep up with Benton Harbor over the final three quarters as it was held to just 20 points the remainder of the contest.

Carlos Johnson poured in a game-high 20 points for the Tigers, who also got 12 and 10 points from Roy Anderson and George Walker respectively.

Tyrese Hunt-Thompson led the Rangers with 12 points. Shane Los added 11.

The Rangers are at White Pigeon Thursday.
