Honor Credit Union recently announced the winners of its seventh annual Teacher Awards, with instructors Cassi Taylor and Kelly Price from Dowagiac Union Schools chosen as two of the 30 winners,

The two will receive $100 to put to use in their classroom or school.

Taylor is a math teacher at Dowagiac Middle School. She will use the money to implement a MobyMax program, which is designed to fill in the gaps students may have in their background knowledge and give them more confidence.

“Cassi is very motivated to find innovative ways to help her students be successful in school,” said Matt Severin, Dowagiac Middle School principal. “As a new teacher, receiving an award like this is a blessing, because it will allow her to add more resources and tools to her classroom.”

Price is a second-grade teacher at Justus Gage Elementary School. She plans to use the money to buy book baskets for students in her classroom to organize books by genre and make choosing a book to read more fun.

“The Honor Credit Union Welcome Back $100 Give Away to local teachers is going to make a big impact in Price’s second-grade classroom,” said Bryan Henry, Justus Gage Elementary School principal. “Price has ordered book bins for the students in her classroom. Every student in Price’s second-grade classroom will select independent reading books from a themed and leveled classroom library.

“The book bins will support learning and growth, as students select books at their individual reading level and personal interests. The book bins will be beneficial this year, as well as years to come. Thank you Honor Credit Union.”

Entrants submitted a short description of how they would use the money to better educate students.
