Kiambu Gary is a junior on the Cassopolis soccer team.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments as an athlete?
KG: Going to the district championship.
What has been one of your biggest disappointments as an athlete?
KG: Going to the district championship and losing.
What has been a hardship in your life?
KG: My favorite two grandmas passing away. They are the ones I grew up around for part of my life.
Who is a “hero” in your life and why?
KG: My mom, because she is always there whenever I need her for sports/school or anything. She gets it.
When are you the most nervous while you are competing?
KG: When it’s a close game and time is running out.
Describe an embarrassing athletic moment.
KG: I took the last shot in our basketball district game as a sophomore and I missed.
How do you tend to work out/train when by yourself?
KG: I have a workout app on my phone and I have weights at home.
What other sport would you like to compete in if you were not playing yours?
KG: Football.
Why are sports an important part of a high school experience?
KG: Sports reveal the leader you are and what type of person you are.
How would you give away $50,000?
KG: I would give it to a charity or to kids and families that don’t really have money for things.
If you could be the head coach of a team for a year, what team would you choose?
KG: The Philadelphia 76ers.
If I did not play sports, I would…?
KG: I would do other school events.
What is the most challenging thing for you to do in your sport?
KG: Well I am a captain, so the coach expects a lot more out of me than other players.
If you could change one rule about your sport, what would it be?
KG: That the penalty kick should get moved back instead of being that close.
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
KG: Freshman year my coach had a college coach come and watch our team and he said that if I keep working hard I should go to college for soccer.
What was the last thing you saw someone do that really impressed you?
KG: A bicycle kick at a soccer camp that I went to.
What is your favorite hobby? Why?
KG: Sports, because I like being competitive.
