The Niles freshman volleyball team finished first at the Lawton tournament Saturday.
The Lady Vikes were 6-0 on the day.
“We earned the No. 1 seed out of pool play beating Mendon, Lawton and Comstock,” Niles coach Samantha Brawley said. “We beat Lawrence 2-0 in the first round of tournament play and beat Brandywine 2-0 in the semifinals. We then took on Edwardsburg in the finals, beating them 2-0. It was a terrific day for my girls.
“They played good volleyball and played well as a team. The girls played great defense, placed the ball well, and worked together to stay focused the whole tournament.”
Reese Davies had 16 kills, 11 aces, 25 points, three digs and two blocks for the Vikings, who also got 13 kills, 25 aces, 48 points and 27 digs from Jaiden Mangold.
The freshmen record is now 24-6-1. The team will travel to Portage Central for a SMAC league match Wednesday.
