A fire that started in a Niles Charter Township residence at about 4 p.m. Tuesday prompted the response of seven fire trucks from the The Niles Charter Township and Clay Fire Departments.

By 5 p.m. State Line Road east of State Road 933 was blocked off by the Berrien County Sheriff Department and a half street full of fire trucks and one ambulance.

The fire appeared to have started at the residence of 1119 State Line Road in Niles Charter Township.

Michael Orlowski arrived to his home at 19652 State Line Road at about 4 p.m., and said he noticed flames flickering up the right side of the house across the street. He said authorities arrived shortly after and told him to stay inside his house for his safety and an issue that he said may have involved faulty power lines.

Orlowski watched from his front stoop as fire fighters continued to work. It appeared that the left backside of what looked to be a shed was burned and smoldering wood was exposed.

Authorities were still busy putting out the fire and did not have details regarding the cause of the fire as of press time.
