Parents will get a taste of the questions and exams their children go face every day at school, as Celebration Graduation hosts its annual trivia night fundraiser Saturday.
The event will take place at 7 p.m., with a meet and greet beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the Dowagiac Conservation Club hall, located on M-51. Table registration costs $150, with 10 people allowed per table; the cost includes entry into the trivia contest, as well as food and drinks served by volunteers at the event.
Entrants must 21 or over to participate.
The trivia portion of the event will consistent of several rounds of questions from 10 different categories, which range from cartoons and movies to Dowagiac sports history.
On top of the games, participants will be served a dinner consisting of pulled pork, cheesy potatoes and many different appetizers and snacks. Several items will for sale in a silent auction taking place that evening as well.
“It is a very popular event,” said Martha Hassle, head organizer with this year’s Celebration Graduation program. “Another one of our fundraisers, the reverse raffle, used to be our largest event, though in recent years the trivia night has been equally successful.”
The event typically generates $10,000 for Celebration Graduation, a program that pays for outgoing seniors to go on a special trip following their commencement.
Hassle has been involved with fundraising efforts for the trip four different years, going on the trip with the seniors three times herself, she said.
“The kids are always so appreciative of the support the community has given them, to allow them to spend one last special night together as classmates,” Hassle said.
This year, organizers with Celebration Graduation have hosted several different fundraisers, including a highly successful poker run, Hassle said. The group is attempting to raise $25,000 for the big trip next spring — any money raised over that will be donated to the graduation trip for the class of 2018, Hassle said.
This year’s Celebration Graduation has also gotten the seniors involved with several community projects throughout the last several months as well, including doing some painting and grounds work around the high school in preparation for the 2016 graduation ceremony in June as well as cleaning up after the Chieftain’s home games, Hassel said.
“We are trying to give back to the community that contributes to the graduation tradition every year,” she said. “The idea has been very well received by the seniors.”
People interested in registering for Saturday’s trivia night can do so by contacting Nicky Hulett at (269) 325-3218 or online at https://www.facebook.com/CelebrationGraduation2017. Organizers with Saturday’s trivia night are asking that anyone interested in donating chips, sodas, dips or any other snacks also contact the group.
The next major fundraiser for Celebration Graduation is the reverse raffle, which takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, also at the conservation club.
