Board approves 2015-16 final budget resolution

The Cassopolis Board of Education approved the 2015-16 final budget resolution at its regular meeting at Squires Education Center Monday night.
The district had total revenues in its general fund of $9.1 million and total expenditures of $9.1 million, leaving the district with a fund balance of $1.4 million as of June 30.
The food service budget has a final balance of $170,155, while the sinking fund balance as of June 30 is $185,091.
The district’s debt service budget ends the 2015-16 year with a balance of $3.9 million.
The board also approved preliminary budgets for the 2016-17 school year.
The district expects to have $1.1 million in its general fund at the end of the coming school year.
Food service will have a fund balance of $138,465, sinking fund will have fund balance $102,192 and debt services will have fund balance of $4.1 million.
The board also approved a state aid borrowing resolution for $1.3 million. The district borrows money to start each year while it waits for its state aid, which comes in October.
John Laraway was hired as a second grade science and social studies teacher at Sam Adams Elementary.
The board then adjourned into close session to discuss the superintendent’s evaluation. When it returned from the evaluation, it then adjourned its meeting.
The next board meeting will be the annual reorganization meeting at 7 p.m. July 11, at Squires Education Center.
