Hero Run and Life Walk set for Saturday

No super powers are needed to be a superhero this weekend.
The Pregnancy Care Center of Niles is offering a chance for Michiana residents to let their inner superhero shine by taking part in the many activities planned for the nonprofit organization’s annual Hero Run and Life Walk Saturday morning.
Renee Norris, who works at the center, said approximately $30,000 is raised each year at the event.
“This is one of our largest fundraisers, so the more people that come and the more people that run or raise money for us gives us more services we can provide the community,” she said. “It is a huge day for us.”
There are several ways people can participate.
People can enter the 5K ($30) or 10K ($40) runs or take part in the Life Walk, which is a short walk from the Riverfront Park Amphitheater to the Pregnancy Care Center, which is located at 527 E. Main St.
Registration for the 5K and 10K runs opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 8:10 a.m.
The 5K race starts at 8:30 a.m. and the 10K at 8:45 a.m. The 5K route is described as flat and family friendly, while the 10K run (new this year) is more challenging.
The Life Walk is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
Organizers are encouraging participants to dress up in their favorite super hero costumes for a chance to win prizes.
After the Hero Run and Life Walk there will be free activities for children near the amphitheater at Riverfront Park, including bounce houses, a petting zoo, corn-hole toss, face painting and cotton candy. The event will end at noon.
“We’ve been trying to make it a family fun day for the community,” Norris said.
Money raised will support the Pregnancy Care Center and the many programs and services it offers to expecting mothers and their significant others, including educational classes, limited medical care and baby items.
