Lakeland hosting seminar about prostate cancer

SOUTH BEND — Community members are invited to attend a free physician speaker event on prostate cancer presented by urologist, Benjamin Stockton, MD, FACS.
The seminar will take place on Monday, June 20, at the Gillespie Conference Center, located at 53995 State Road 933 in South Bend, Indiana.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. with the hour-long presentation beginning at 6 p.m. Complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
During the presentation, Dr. Stockton will discuss risk factors, the importance of screenings, and the latest technology and treatment options available for those diagnosed with prostate cancer, including use of the da Vinci robotic surgical system. According to the 2015 Cancer Care Report from the Marie Yeager Cancer Center, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer site treated at Lakeland with 145 cases in 2014.
Guests will have the opportunity to test drive the da Vinci Xi Surgical System or view a demonstration. To date, over 1,700 robotic surgery cases have been performed at Lakeland by one of 15 specially-trained robotic surgeons led by Dr. Stockton, Medical Director of the Lakeland Robotics program.
Lakeland Health is the only health system in Michiana with the most advanced Xi technology and with three da Vinci Xi surgical robots.
