An Illinois man was arrested over Memorial Day weekend crashing his watercraft into a docked boat on Dewey Lake, according to a release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Joshua Glascott, 21, of Evergreen Park, Illinois, was taken into police custody and lodged in Cass County Jail on charges of operating a watercraft under the influence of alcohol. He was also cited for clockwise travel and for not having a boater safety certificate.
According to police, deputies responded a call of a personal watercraft crash on the lake, located in Sister Lakes, around 8:10 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, officers spoke with several eyewitnesses, who told police that Glascott had been traveling at a high rate of speed in a clockwise motion around the lake when he lost control of his craft, striking several piers and a docked boat.
Officers determined that both high speeds and alcohol played a role in the crash.
No injuries were reported in the incident, police said.
Pride Care Ambulance and the Sister Lakes Fire Department assisted sheriff office deputies at the scene.
The office reminds all vessel operators that the state of Michigan requires all personal watercraft operators born after Dec. 31, 1978, are required to have on their person while operating a boater safety certificate, and that anyone born after July 1, 1996, is required to possess a boater safety certificate to operate any vessel on Michigan lakes.
