190 set to graduate from Niles High School

One-hundred and ninety students are expected to graduate from Niles High School this week during the school’s 60th annual commencement ceremony.

Proceedings are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at the Niles High School football stadium. The ceremony will be relocated to the high school gymnasium in case of inclement weather.

Principal Robin Hadrick said 62 of the 190 graduates plan to attend a four-year university in the fall. Six of the graduates plan to enter the military, 38 will begin an apprenticeship or enter the workforce and 84 intend on furthering their education at a community college or trade school.

One-hundred and ninety one students graduated in 2015.

The program will feature speeches from students Morgan Altergott, Hannah Hill and Chloe File. Student Kelsey Barton, who earned her associate’s degree from Lake Michigan College this year, will present the senior class gift to the high school, a quote that best reflects the Class of 2016. It will be placed within the walls of the high school in order to keep the memory of the Class of 2016 alive forever.

Chelsea Best will lead the turning of the tassels, which signifies the end of high school for students.

There will also be speeches from Hadrick and school board president Greg O’Toole.

The Niles High School choir will perform the song, “For Good,” from the musical, “Wicked.”

The Niles High School Concert Band will perform processional music.
