Robert L Golden, age 77, of Edwardsburg, died peacefully Tuesday evening, May 24, 2016, at the Cass County Medical Care Facility in the presence and comfort of his family.

Robert was born Oct. 14, 1938, in Bangor, Michigan, the son of Robert and Melba (Hopkins) Golden. He married Marilyn A Souers on Sept. 11, 1964, in Buchanan, Michigan. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Roger M Schiele.

Robert served honorably in the U.S. National Guard while he was in high school. After graduation, he served five years in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft machinist and mechanic during both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. Robert had an amazing mechanical ability. He will be remembered for being often found under the hood of a vehicle usually fixing the cars of his five sons. Robert enjoyed taking his family on camping adventures every summer. He will especially be remembered for his infectious laugh and smile.

Robert will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Marilyn A (Souers) Golden of Edwardsburg, Michigan; his sons: John (Janet) of Deer Park, Texas; Mark (Ulrike) of Salzburg, Austria; Robert (Valerie) of Middlebury, Indiana; Michael of South Bend, Indiana; Thomas of Sarasota, Florida; his grandchildren: Jeff, Jamie, Jenna, M Steven, Leslie (Andy), Zachary (Lisa), Samuel, Olivia; his great-grandchild Jolene; his sisters: Ginger Ingleright of Edwardsburg, Michigan; Jackie (Marvin) Brooks of Niles, Michigan; his brother: Ken (Linda) Schiele of Niles, Michigan; Steven Golden of Benton Harbor, Michigan; a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for a Memorial Service with military honors at the Edwardsburg American Legion in July, specific date and time to be determined.

The family prefers contributions be made in Robert’s name to the Cass County Council on Aging, Post Office Box 5, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031, and the Alzheimer’s Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter, 350 East Michigan Avenue, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49007.
