James Heddon and his family are world renowned for Heddon fishing tackle that was made in Dowagiac for 80 years.

What are lesser known are the many other ventures and adventures of the Heddon family beyond the tackle business.

Don Lyons of the Heddon Museum will “tackle” that subject as he closes out the Spring Lecture Series at the Dowagiac Area History Museum at 6:30 p.m. June 1 with “More Than Lures: The Heddons of Dowagiac.”

Don Lyons has done extensive research that explores the family history beyond the baits that made the Heddon name known across the globe. He will share it in his program.

James Heddon worked in local politics, ran a newspaper and was well known nationally for his honey. His sons had varied interests, including parachuting and billiards.

Don and Joan Lyons have run the Heddon Museum in Dowagiac for more than 20 years and are in the process of authoring several books on the family and the Heddon fishing products. The museum has the world’s premier collection of Heddon fishing tackle, other products and family papers.

This program is free for members and those under 18, and $5 for non-members. The Dowagiac Area History Museum is located at the corner of Division and W. Railroad streets. For more information, call the Dowagiac Area History Museum at (269) 783-2560 or visitdowagiacmuseum.info.
