The 2016 USPS Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive was facilitated on Saturday, May 14.
It is Dowagiac’s 16th year of participation (the event has been held 24 years nationally). It is sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Rural Letter Carrier Association.
The NALC, NRLCA, and the Dowagiac Post Office would like to thank the community for their generous support. More than 6,300 pounds of food was collected and distributed locally to ACTION Ministries, First Christian Church, and St Paul’s Episcopal Church.
The organizations would also like to thank all the volunteers who donated their time and effort to make this year a success. A special thank you goes out to retired Dowagiac postal employee Mary Means and her family for continuing to help coordinate and support the event.
In Buchanan, 4,520 pounds of food was collected and distributed to Redbud Area Ministries, a food pantry and charity organization.
Totals for the Niles food drive were not available as of Tuesday afternoon.
