Financial education gets a boost

Representatives of Chemical Bank presented a check in the amount of $3,600 to the Niles District Library Thursday morning.
The funds will be used for the library’s “Changing the Balance” program, which helps people take control of their finances, whether they are struggling to pay the bills, wanting to know how to plan for retirement or interested in buying a home.
Sue Mikel, branch manager of the Chemical Bank in Edwardsburg, said the bank is happy to support a program that has shown great success in the past.
“We at Chemical Bank possess a passion to educate our local communities in which we work and live, to provide a better financial future,” she said.
Once the participants attend these classes, Mikel said they can bring their certificate to any Chemical Bank and apply for a credit builder loan that will establish and or fix their credit.
More information, including how to register for classes, can be found online at changingthebalance.org.
