Brandywine wrestling coach Rex Pomranka picked up career victories No. 299 and 300 as the Bobcats swept a pair of BCS Athletic Conference matches Wednesday night.

Brandywine defeated Cassopolis 40-33 and then edged Berrien Springs 42-39 to improve to 21-9 on the season.

Pomranka is in his 12th season as the Bobcats’ head coach.

“It means a lot,” Pomranka said about the milestone. “That means we travel and we wrestle a lot of matches against tough competition and we win.”

Pomranka said that the team had prepared a poster that they all signed and many of the fans sported “300” signs.

“It kind of brought a tear to my eye,” he said.

In 12 years of being the head coach at Brandywine, the Bobcats have only had two losing seasons.

This year the team is 21-9 and is improving week in and week out.

“Each year the teams are different,” Pomranka said. “But they all stack up about the same. This year we are coming together as a team and we are wrestling really well right now.”

In its win over Berrien Springs, Brandywine recorded five pins and picked up a pair of forfeits.

Against Cassopolis, the Bobcats got pins from Searra Inman, Michael Kachur, Jesse Lochmondy and Kristen Hertsal.

“We have been having some good old fashion dual meets this year,” Pomranka said. “We had a lot of close, tough matches. Last Saturday we got a big win against Buchanan, which had beaten us by 18 points earlier in the year. We had a close match with Cassopolis on Saturday and again last night.

The kids are working hard and wrestling well and that is what is nice about it.”

The Bobcats are on the road again Saturday as they compete in the Quincy Invitational.
