NEW BUFFALO — The Pokagon Fund is pleased to announce the award by the Fund’s Board of Directors of $126,211 in grants to the following 13 organizations serving Harbor Country, Dowagiac, Hartford and South Bend:

• A $9,000 grant to the Bread of Life Food Pantry to provide food and supplies for local families.

• A $3,000 grant to the Coastline Children’s Film Festival to support the sixth annual Children’s Film Festival in Berrien County in March, 2016.

• A $2,000 grant to the Harbor Country Rotary to provide hats, mittens, and holiday food baskets to students and families.

• A $8,000 grant to the River Valley School District for annual school bus trips.

• A $8,000 grant to the New Buffalo School District for annual school bus trips.

• A $5,000 grant to St. Mary of the Lake School for annual school bus trips.

• A $38,250 grant to Three Oaks Township to purchase an air cylinder fill station for the Three Oaks Fire Department.

• A $11,500 grant to New Buffalo Township to purchase gloves, boots, and other necessary gear for the New Buffalo Township Fire Department.

• A $10,000 grant to the Youth Service Bureau of St. Joseph County Inc., to support safe housing and other services to homeless and parenting young women.

• A $10,000 grant to the Berrien County Council for Children (Children’s Assessment Center) to provide a coordinated response to child abuse that includes prevention, assessment, and intervention.

• A $2,216 grant to the Center for the Homeless to upgrade a computer lab for school-age children temporarily housed at the center in St. Joseph County.

• A $10,000 grant to the Life Treatment Centers to support the Center’s Detoxification Facility in St. Joseph County.

• A $9,145 grant to the Crossing Educational Center to support the Culinary Project, a micro-business for vocation trailing of at-risk students in St. Joseph County.

The Pokagon Fund is a nonprofit private foundation located in New Buffalo. It is funded by revenue from The Four Winds Casino Resort. Grants are awarded to nonprofit and governmental organizations in southwest Michigan, as well as Hartford, Dowagiac and South Bend. Since the organization’s inception in 2007, The Pokagon Fund has provided over $21 million in grant awards and scholarships to enhance the lives of the families in their service area.
