Thanksgiving weekend is not all about turkey, stuffing and quality time with the family.

It’s also about filling shopping bags full of items during what is considered to be the busiest shopping days of the season. Of course large franchise businesses will offer plenty of deals this weekend, especially for Black Friday, but there are plenty of opportunities to purchase goodies locally, too.

Fortunately, residents in the Niles and Buchanan communities won’t have to travel far to take advantage of great holiday specials and enjoy good family fun.

Below is a round up of holiday events planned in our area:

 

NILES

What: Holiday Homecoming & Small Business Saturday

When: All day (small business Saturday), 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. (Holiday Homecoming)

Where: Downtown Niles

Details: Support local businesses and take advantage of specials during Small Business Saturday. Check out Niles Main Street’s page on Facebook for a current list of what businesses are offering.

After a day full of shopping, meet Santa Claus, enjoy refreshments, take a free carriage ride (donations appreciated) and witness the lighting of the downtown.

 

BUCHANAN

What: White Saturday

When: All day

Where: Downtown Buchanan

Details: Everyone is welcome to visit the unique shops and enjoy activities during Buchanan’s take on Small Business Saturday.

Santa will visit the Buchanan District Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Buchanan Art Center will offer a walk through Raku, artists’ sale gift shop, refreshments and goodies. Fernwood Botanical Garden will be hosted by SL Consignment. Individual store hours will vary.
