Jessie M. (Furst) Womble, 91, of Niles, passed away on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, following a brief illness.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1923, in Porterfield, Wisconsin to the late Alexander “Sandy” and Anna Marie (La Rock) Furst.
After graduating high school, Jessie studied fashion merchandising and upon coming to Niles worked for many years at the former Niles plant of Simplicity Pattern Company. On May 29, 1948, Jessie married Charles F. Womble at a ceremony in Niles. The couple enjoyed camping, traveling and they were very active for many years in local square dance clubs. She was a gifted musician and enjoyed playing the organ. She was a faithful member of Huntly Memorial Baptist Church in Niles. After Charles passed in 2003, Jessie filled her time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers; Warren, Earl, Larry and George Furst, her sisters; Catherine Furst, Annette Nelson, Hazel Edgerton, Gladys Lohse, Evelyn Womble and May Dunaway.
Jessie is survived by her brothers, Gordon (Elaine) Furst of Wisconsin and Kenneth (Marilyn) Furst of Wisconsin and her sister, Roseanna Lewis of Wisconsin as well as a host of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at Brown Funeral Home. A time of visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 12. An interment will be held at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens. Following the interment, her family would like to invite everyone for a time of food and sharing of remembrances at the Silverbrook Manufactred Home Clubhouse at 1000 W. Wildflower Drive in Niles.
