The Cassopolis volleyball team finally figured out a way to beat the Dowagiac Chieftains Monday night.
After having lost to Dowagiac in the two previous meetings at tournaments, the Rangers were strong at the net and came up with some timely serves against the Chieftains en route to a 3-2 non-conference victory.
Cassopolis defeated Dowagiac 25-19, 25-18, 25-27 and 25-23.
“I am so proud of my girls for their hard work and dedication tonight,” Cassopolis coach Demi Schrader said. “The games were very competitive and exciting. My girls came out ready to play and win, We finally played as a team.
“We worked hard and left it all on the court. This is a great win for us seeing as though we have our first district game next week. We have come so far since the beginning of the season and I cannot wait to see the results.”
The Rangers have a huge front line and used it to offset the play of Dowagiac’s top hitters Annie Ennesser and Taylor Hulett.
Jamie Suseland, Maile Barber, Kayla Rowen and Madison Cutting combined for 35 kills and six blocks.
Suseland also had a big night serving against the Chieftains as she was credited with six aces.
Defensively for the Rangers, Lynnzee Armstrong had 20 digs and Kaylyn Forrest 19 digs to go along with her 33 assists.
Dowagiac’s Annie Ennesser had 13 kills, two kills and 31 digs, while Natalie Davis had 27 digs.
Taylor Hulett had five kills and four blocks. Kassidy Binns finished with 21 assists.
