No such thing as free breakfast

An article in last week’s Daily News, “Free Breakfast Offered,” stated that “the meals would be offered (to Dowagiac school students) for no charge to any student” by the schools’ food services vendor.
A little deeper into the article we learn that “costs associated with the free breakfast program are subsidized by the government.”
How ironic that the same students who are going to receive this beneficent gift from the government will be the ones who will have to pay for it when they become wage earners.
With the national debt piling up by billions (not millions, but billions) of dollars every day, these kids are going to be the ones to pay.
In the meantime, us ancients and baby boomers are having fun with the credit card. Enjoy it now — it won’t last forever, no matter what our politicians tell us.
