Louis Rolland Berner, 92, passed way on Aug. 30, 2015. He was a resident of Peachtree City, Georgia.
Lou was born in Chicago, on Jan. 9, 1923. He was a graduate of Purdue University after serving in WW11 as an Army Air Corp pilot. Lou was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and the School of Engineering. While attending Purdue, he met his wife, Barbara Means.
Lou lived most of his professional life in Niles, Michigan where he was Vice President of Materials for National Standard Company. He retired with Barbara to Keowee Key, S.C. where he was a volunteer firefighter and sang with the Key Choraliers. He thoroughly enjoyed lake living and spending time with his extended family. He was an avid sailor, loved to snow ski, play paddle tennis, ride horses, and paint.
Lou was a member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, and volunteered for various projects.
Lou and Barbara celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in June. In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Kent Berner (Suzanne DesMarteau), Kathy Berner Case (Andy), Lori Berner Broome(Larry), and Tricia Berner Weatherford (Greg), all in the Peachtree City area; his grandchildren: Austin, Alex, Cameron Berner, Megan Berner McCall (David), Hunter and Kallie Broome, Torey and Jessica Weatherford, and great granddaughter, Kayden Broome. Also surviving are brother Carl Berner (Karen); and twin sisters Sue Berner Eibel(Jim) and Sally Berner Hanley (Bill) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at Peachtree City United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to PTC United Methodist Church in care of the Music Ministry program, 225 Robinson Road, PTC, GA. 30269, or Purdue Musical organization for Purdue Varsity Glee Club, 359 Northwestern Ave., West Lafayette, IN 47906.
