BERRIEN SPRINGS — Visiting Dowagiac got a goal and an assist from Gage Williams in its 3-1 non-conference soccer victory over Berrien Springs Wednesday,

The Chieftains (4-1) scored all three of its goals in the opening 40 minutes.

Nick Carpenter opened the scoring in the 13th minute with Williams picking up the assist.

Williams made it 2-0 in the 15th minute and A.J. Lara capped the scoring with a goal in the 17th minute.

Berrien Springs averted the shutout in the 20th minute on a goal by Hoyeon Won.

“We did not move the ball well and got pulled into a game of kickball,” Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said. “We have to be more patient and control possession better. It was nice to get the win in the heat. Definitely had an impact on our patience.”
