The Niles soccer team scored a pair of early goals and then held off visiting Kalamazoo Loy Norrix for a 2-1 SMAC victory Wednesday.

Bryant Echerrivia scored off a cross from Jose Magana to make it 1-0.

A short time later Magana scored off a pass from Sheldon Mudd to make it 2-0 at the half.

Loy Norrix scored a goal in the final 40 minutes, but could not get the equalizer.

“Niles really played strong throughout the match, especially in the first half in which it put together some great soccer,” Niles coach Danny Rodts said. “Possessing, playing simple, yet quick passes really kept the pressure on Loy Norrix. Defensively, Niles was strong throughout the match.”

The Vikings JV defeated Loy Norrix 4-1.

Mauricio Aquirre scored two goals and had a pair of assists for Niles.

Also scoring for Niles were Cooper Hullinger (Aguirre assist) and Trey Scott (Aguirre assist).
