SOUTH HAVEN — The Dowagiac golf team opened its season with a pair of Wolverine Conference jamborees at South Haven and Allegan Monday.

The Chieftains placed eighth in both events.

Plainwell was the team champion in both jamborees as it shot 201 at HawksHead in South Haven and 185 at Chesire Hills in Allegan.

Dowagiac shot 305 in South Haven and 252 in Allegan.

Senior Kelsey Smith led Dowagiac at both jamborees with scores of 58 (HawksHead) and 55 (Cheshire Hills).

“Luda (Dickson-French) and Micaela (Ruff) have been playing golf now for a week and a half and they played in their first jamborees already,” Dowagiac coach Bob Turner said. “We got off to a bad start at South Haven, but in the afternoon round at Cheshire Hills we improved.”
