Parents should remain patient in wake of Buchanan school break-in

The recent break-in at Buchanan Middle School is unfortunate for many reasons, the main one being that it is at the very least disrupting the education of the children in that community.

The superintendent announced late last week that the start of school would be delayed, meaning students will likely miss out on a number of days of instruction.

How and where they will make up those days is still up in the air.

It is sad that the person or persons responsible for stealing large amounts of copper material from the middle school were willing to cause this much disruption for the sake of a little bit of money.

If and when these people are caught, we hope that a judge will take this into consideration when handing down their punishment.

Fortunately, school officials are working hard to make sure this incident has the least amount of impact possible on students and the community.

We hope parents of the affected students will be understanding and patient as school officials work out the best course of action to make up missed days, whether that means finding temporary space for middle school students to learn in, or using weather make-up days to account for any time missed.

There will likely be some headaches caused by this incident, but it is important to remember that this is not the school’s fault and that school leaders are doing their best to get through a difficult situation.

We also encourage anyone with any information about this crime to contact the Buchanan Police Department at (269) 695-5120.

As things get back to normal for the Buchanan community, hopefully they can look back on this incident and realize that it made the stronger.
