Argument leads to serious accident in Pokagon Township

A Cassopolis man was airlifted to a hospital in Kalamazoo after an argument led to an accident in Pokagon Township Friday, according to Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr.
According to the release, deputies responded to a personal injury accident at 11:28 a.m. Friday on M-51 near Peavine Street. Officers responding to the scene learned that Drake Brewer, 21, of Cassopolis, jumped out of a moving vehicle as Abigail Smith, 20, of Niles, was driving northbound on M-51.
Underwood said Brewer jumped out of the vehicle in the midst of an argument. Witnesses corroborated the information.
Brewer was transported by Pride Care Ambulance to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac and was later airlifted by Air Care to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of serious injuries, according to the release.
Assisting at the scene were Pokagon Band Tribal Police, Dowagiac City Police and Pokagon Fire Department.
Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor, and the incident remains under investigation.
