Marian MacNeill, 81, of Niles, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 30, 2015.
Marian was born on Oct. 1, 1933, to the late Edgar M. and Jean (Corey) Tillman in Painted Post, New York. After graduating from high school Marian went on to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree from Skidmore College. She loved to sing and in college she was a member of the Sonneteer’s; an all-girls a capella choir that traveled around the country. On Nov. 26, 1960, Marian wed the love of her life, and best friend, Gil MacNeill at a ceremony in her home town. The family enjoyed spending time at their cottage at Palisades Park on Lake Michigan where everyone could relax and enjoy each other’s company. In 1965 Marian became a member of the Seepewa Reading Club and has maintained her membership ever since. She also enjoyed traveling, especially with her husband, and their trips to Costa Rica, Prague, Spain and Mt. Rushmore.
Marian was a woman of strong faith. She has been a long time member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Niles and served in administrative roles at the diocesan and parish level. She was also a member of the choir. Marian and Gil enjoyed traveling the country with Faith Alive and Cursillo sharing their faith with others.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Justice Myron Tillman, sister, Ruth and her husband Richard Hylen.
She is survived by her husband, Gil; children, David MacNeill of Houston, Texas, Laura MacNeill of Portage, Michigan and Heather (Andrew) Caine of Westfield, Indiana; granddaughter, Julia; niece, Beth Hylen; and a host of church friends and family.
Marian’s family will be hosting a memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Church in Niles on Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at 11 a.m.
