Anyone who has ever wondered what really goes on at a dairy farm will soon have a chance to find out.

On Saturday, Aug. 8, the Hood Dairy Farm in Paw Paw, Michigan, will be the site of one of Michigan State University Extension’s annual Breakfast on the Farm events.

Breakfast on the Farm gives consumers and farm neighbors a first-hand look at modern food production and the farm families who work hard to produce a safe, wholesome food supply for Michigan communities and the world.

It is made possible through generous support of organizations and businesses at the state and local level.

Breakfast on the Farm will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (breakfast will be served 9 a.m. to noon) and will be hosted by Hood Dairy Farm (Tim and Debbie Hood Family). The farm is located at 41488 CR 358, Paw Paw.

The Hood Dairy operation consists of 500 cows and they raise corn and hay.

The Hood family has been farming for more than 70 years. Tim and Debbie are fourth generation farmers.

Their children — Tammy, Charlie, Britney, and Jennifer — also play a huge role in the day to day farming operation. In addition to farming the Hoods’ play an active role in the community and are a member of the Van Buren County Farm Bureau as well as Michigan Milk Producers Association.

Breakfast on the Farm is a free event, but participants must have a ticket to eat.  Tickets are available at locations across Berrien, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties.
