Dowagiac’s largest festival of the year returns to the downtown business district this weekend, and is shaping up to be one of the largest events in its three-decade history.
The 30th annual Summer in the City Festival kicks off on Thursday, with events lined up for visitors of all ages through Sunday afternoon. The four-day event is once again sponsored by the members of the Greater Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce, with the support of numerous local businesses and organizations.
The festivities begin Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m., with a performance by up and coming country singer Jared Knox at The ‘Jack Festival Events Center, which will be set up at Beckwith Park. The events center opens at 5 p.m. that afternoon.
The event continues all day Friday through Saturday, with more live entertainment, such as bike stunt show from AGA Nation and performances from local dance studios Miss Michele & Co. and MKSOD. Local vendors and merchants will also line Front Street, offering their wares to visitors.
The festivities conclude at 5 p.m. Sunday, with a special ice cream social and concert presented by ACTION Ministries.
The chamber is still seeking additional volunteers to help out on Friday and Saturday with the beer garden at Beckwith Park. People can assist with the ticketing, bartending, food and gate entry; shifts are between three to five hours.
To volunteer or for more information, contact the chamber at (269) 782-8212.
