2014-15 revenues less than expected for Edwardsburg Public Schools

Edwardsburg Public Schools were forecasted for higher revenues for the 2014-15 school year; however, as was announced at the board’s regular meeting June 22, the monies were slightly less than anticipated.
The majority of this decrease is due to the reduction in anticipated Federal Title Program funding chief financial officer Anne Flautt said.
On the expenditures side the district was able to save money in supplies and maintenance. Capital equipment expenditures did increase because it added new sousaphones for the band, replaced copiers for two schools, as well as an off-lease bus.
The 2015-16 school year forecast shows a deficit of $501.374 due to multiple factors including an increase in some personnel costs, insurance costs and implementation of the Affordable Health Care Act.
Also, the schools adopted a math curriculum and are partnering with Indiana University South Bend. New classroom furniture for the elementary schools were added as well.
In other business the district hired the following new teachers:
• Megan Sorensen, middle school Integrated Science and Technology Applications teacher
• Kenneth Grinage, high school business education teacher
• Mitchel Mast, high school chemistry and physics teacher
• Patricia Thoms, high school visual arts instructor
• Cheyenne Withey, high school English language arts teacher
