While the giant, furry humanoid monster the event is named after failed to appear, Sister Lakes’ Fourth of July Bigfoot Parade attracted yet another diverse lineup and enthusiastic crowd Saturday evening.

More than 30 units entered the annual parade that day, while hundreds of spectators watched from the front lawns of their homes and the parking lots of local businesses as the participants made their way from Lions Park toward Sister Lakes Elementary School. As in previous years, many of the people riding in the vehicles and floats tossed out candy and other treats to children lining the parade route; many kids came prepared, with bags to collect the tasty treats.

Led by fire engines and other vehicles with the Sister Lakes Fire Department, the parade procession was comprised of units from a variety of different organizations. Other firehouses such as Wayne and Keeler townships, businesses like Ramona Roller Rink and True’s Towing and Recovery, and even several local courts of honor participated in Saturday’s event.

Following the parade, the Lions Club hosted its annual fireworks show out at the park grounds.

This year’s parade was the second organized by volunteers with the Sister Lakes Fire Department, which also held a successful Port a Pit chicken fundraiser that day at the fire station, organizers said.

“All together, Saturday was a really great day for the Sister Lakes Fire Department and the community,” parade organizer Ashley Lozada said, via email. “[We] would like to say thank you to everyone that came out and supported the Sister Lakes Fire Department, and the Lions Club for putting on a great fireworks show, and wish everyone a happy and safe fourth of July weekend.”
