Niles teen hit by car, driver flees scene

Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that hit and injured a 16-year-old girl who was walking home Tuesday night in Niles Township.
According to a Berrien County Sheriff’s Department press release, deputies were dispatched to 1950 S. 13th St. — commonly known as Franklin Woods — on a report of a hit and run accident at 11:18 p.m.
Deputies discovered that a 16-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle while walking to her residence. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of a head wound and injuries to her arms and wrists. She was later released.
The driver of the vehicle initially stopped and began to assist the victim, but then she fled the scene.
The vehicle was described as a mid-2000’s sedan, silver in color. One witness described the vehicle as possibly being a 2006-2013 Chevrolet Impala. The suspect vehicle may have damage to the front driver’s side headlight, hood, or quarter panel.
The driver of the vehicle was described as a white female in her 20s with brown or blonde hair pulled into a pony tail. She is approximately 5 foot 3 inches to 5 foot 5 inches and weighs approximately 120 pounds or less. She was also described as wearing a white or gray tank top, blue jean shorts, and had sunglasses on top of her head.
