The Edwardsburg Museum needs your help. No, they don’t need the grass cut or the bathroom cleaned or a new air conditioner, even though all of those would be nice, but what they really need is help with their new display.

The theme for this year is the 1960s.

The furniture is in place, clothes are hung in the closet and the go-go boots lined up. The record albums are up on the wall and the popular foods of the 60s are on display. It’s the next section that needs help.

The topic is the news and views of the 60s. Since so many events happened during the 60s, it has been broken down into several topics.

Here are the areas to be covered; local events, medicine, sports, laws, education, business, art and politics.
Do any of these events ring a bell with you?

The first Super Bowl, the assassinations, the Beatles coming to America, the Vietnam War, landing on the moon, Civil Rights marches, Woodstock, the Democratic Convention in Chicago with the Black Panthers, the new 49th and 50th state. Edwardsburg’s new high school, Kent State and etc. The Cuban Missile Crisis and the Cold War, the Civil Rights March on Washington. Many laws were passed that effect us today.

Television became our eyes on the world. Many of us watched the Kennedy assassination on the TV.

Television became our entertainment center. Who can forget Maxwell Smart in Get Smart, or the boys from Bonanza or The Brady Bunch? The first heart transplant or The Great Society?
